 Principal's Message

Welcome to St. Patrick Catholic School. We are hopeful that our website gives an interesting and informative picture of our school community.

We are a unique Catholic community with home, school and parish joined together to offer each student an education of the mind and soul.

Curriculum is the driving engine of the school. During the academic year of 2007-2008 literacy will continue to be our focus. The principal, vice-principal, teachers, educational assistant and the school community, with the assistance of Sue Conway-Williamson, Principal of School Effectiveness from the Board Office, are working to enhance and improve the literacy program in all grades from Junior Kindergarten to Grade Eight. The vision for our students dealing specifically with literacy is as follows:
All students in our Learning Network will be part of a balanced literacy program, tailored to meet their individual needs, so that they can become successful, independent readers, writers and communicators with a positive attitude.

Parents are the first educators of their children, and in that capacity, we encourage parents to visit the school and to have regular contact with the teachers of their children. Your commitment to your children’s education is paramount to a successful academic career. The staff is always willing to listen and to assist you.

Susan M. Sanders, Principal

 About Our School

Construction of the present three-room St. Patrick School, with basement auditorium for parish and school activities, was begun in April 1940.  Archbishop M.J. O’Brien purchased land across from the Church from a local resident, assisted by Parish Priest, Father J.  Powell.  With many parish men donating time and materials and with the Rashotte Brothers of Tweed as the main contractors, the two story brick school was built in record time.  It opened for classes on September 14, 1940 with an enrolment of fifty-four pupils.  The first teachers at the school were Miss Madeline Walsh and Miss Loretta Cunningham.  On Sunday, October 6, 1940 at a special ceremony, Archbishop O’Brien blessed the school and named it in honour of St. Patrick.

Many changes have occurred since 1940.  Until 1965, St. Patrick was a continuation school in which grades one to ten were taught; students then attended either Tamworth Continuation School or Regiopolis in Kingston for their remaining high school years.  After that year, students attended Napanee District Secondary School or Regi for all of their secondary education.  In 1968, the school became part of the Frontenac-Lennox and Addington County Roman Catholic Separate School Board (F.L.& A.C.R.C.S.S.B.) administered from Kingston.

In 1998, the F.L.& A.C.R.C.S.S.B. amalgamated with the Hastings Prince Edward S.S.B. to form our current School Board, Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board, with our Board Office located in Napanee.

Today fifty students, from Junior Kindergarten to Grade Eight attend St. Patrick School.  Personnel include Mrs. J. Choquette, Grades 5-8; Mrs. A. Hanley, Grades 1-4; Mrs. C. Roth, Kindergarten; Mme O. Larose, French; Mrs. M. Garrett as Educational Assistant; Father B. Brennan, Parish Priest; Mr. J Gaffney, custodian; Ms. L. DeMarsh, secretary, Mrs. T. Dodwell, Special Education & Vice-Principal and Mrs. S. Sanders, Principal.
