Bus Cancellations and  Lunches

 

Please be advised that when buses are cancelled due to inclement weather, we will not have parent volunteers available to distribute milk or hot lunches. Parents should ensure their children have a drink and a lunch on those particular days.

The Canadian Red Cross Quinte Branch is introducing a new program for parents and caregivers!
Emergency First Aid and CPR for Childcare will be held on Saturday, October 4th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Canadian Red Cross is offering a babysitter's course for children 11 years old and older on the following dates:
 
Saturday, September 20th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday, October 18th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday, November 8th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday, December 20th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board has been involved in the preparation of an updated Capital Strategic Plan intended to provide a long-term strategy to accommodate students of our Board. This plan responds to the capital funding programs and guidelines of the Ministry of Education and is an ongoing process which includes community consultation.

The Board has scheduled three Public Information Meetings as noted below where you are invited to learn about our capital needs and our process, including next steps.

Local public schools will benefit from the General Mills Race to Read Program, designed by Brighton Speedway Park staff to encourage literacy while learning about the fast cars and their local drivers. The participating grade three class that reads the most minutes will be invited to attend the races, where the champion individual reader will be awarded their prizes, on May 20, 2006.  Each student participating will also receive a race ticket.

In March students and the parent Council at St. Mary's raised funds for the Quinte Humane Society and Fixed fur Life.  In total $1068.00 was raised through their combined efforts. 
 
The top 3 classes were as follows:
#1.  Ms. A. McCauley......$76.50
#2.  Mrs. Tees................$71.50
#3.  Mr. Plante...............$65.30
 
Ms. A. McCauley's class will be receiving their free pizza lunch on Friday April 13th.

St. Paul Catholic School Council in Kingston will be holding a seminar on "Using EQAO Data to Promote Student Learning" This is an excellent opportunity for all parents, but especially those with students in Grades 3 and 6, who will be taking the EQAO Assessment this spring.  Please call 613-542-6101 if you which to attend.
 
The seminar will be held at St. Paul Catholic School located at 266 McMahon Avenue on April 17/07 between 7:00- 9:00 p.m.  The presentor will be Terri MacDonald who is the principal for School Support & Outreach EQAO.

St. Mary School, Trenton held its annual Hoops For Heart event on Friday, February 16.  Thirty-seven participants were active for the morning by taking part in a three-on-three tournament and a Bump Challenge.  The students were pleased to donate pledges amounting to $1200, a school best, to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Early in January Ms. McCauley's grade five students were learning about Government and Citizenship.  As part of this unit students were involved in a project that had them design a flag for the school.  To view the students' project ideas click below.

Camp Kirk is a residential summer camp for children ages 6 to 13 with learning disabilities and or AD(H)D, including those who have problems of incontinence or enuresis.

On January 18th the school held the first school wide speed stacking cup competition. Thank you to Parent Council members for purchasing an additional class set of "Speed Stacking Cups".

The Hon. James K. Bartleman, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, is appealing to Ontarians to once again bring the magic of books to Aboriginal children by donating new or gently used books during the month of January. Books can be dropped off at any OPP Detachment across Ontario.
