 Mission Statement

St. Mary Catholic School

Mission Statement

Our school community is Christ-centered and strives to reflect the two great commandments of Jesus:  “Love God and love your neighbour.”  Our school community is committed to nurturing personal, academic and spiritual growth.

THE THREE R’S

“Respect, Responsibility and Relationships”

At St. Mary Catholic School we put Christ at the centre of all our learning and in all our dealings with people.  We strive to create a community of learners where all members master RESPECT for themselves and others, practice taking RESPONSIBILITY for their actions and discover the ways to build healthy RELATIONSHIPS.  All of this should lead to the self-discipline that comes with maturity, understanding and wisdom.

 Principal's Message

As the principal of St. Mary Catholic School, I look forward to joining you in another year of learning and growth.  St. Mary has established itself as an outstanding Catholic community of learners and I consider myself privileged to be a part of it.  I know that together we can continue to deserve the excellent reputation which the school enjoys.

Let us continue to nurture and celebrate our gifts and talents, to support one another and to strive together in God’s name to make St. Mary Catholic School an even better place in which to grow and learn.

Remember the three R’s:  Respect, Responsibility and Relationships

P. Melim, Principal

 About Our School

St. Mary's is a Catholic School located in Trenton, Ontario, home of Canadian Forces 8 Wing Command, and many other fine area businesses. Many of the families making up the school community are armed forces personnel and therefore it is a school that services the academic needs of the military and civilian population. St. Mary's school has a mix of students from junior kindergarten to grade eight who come to school with a vast array of experiences and interests from across Canada and around the world.

The majority of Families belong to St. Peter's parish under the spiritual leadership of Father McNally. Many families also come from surrounding parishes including Our Lady of Peace at Canadian Forces Base Trenton. St. Mary's is therefore deeply committed to the Catholic direction of these parish communities. Some concrete examples of this commitment are regular monthly masses at the school which have been prepared by individual teachers and their students, preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation, and an active junior choir for the Sunday morning liturgy at St. Peter's Church.

St. Mary's is a dual-track school in that instruction is offered in both a full English setting as well as French Immersion Program. Approximately one quarter of the students receive full English instruction from kindergarten to grade eight. St. Mary's has approximately 140 students in a blended junior-senior kindergarten program; this population is accommodated through alternate day scheduling.

St. Mary's is a very community-oriented school and takes pride in its participation and support of community programs. Students from grade one to six are active participants in the Kente-Kiwanis supported Terrific Kid Program which applauds positive behavior in young students. The student give generously of their time through visits to local nursing homes and supports the local food bank with donations of food goods during seasonal times of the year. Our students are the recipients of several community awards including awards from the Royal Canadian Legion for participation in Remembrance Day essay and poster contests as well as their annual public speaking contest.

We share a very cooperative relationship with parents and the larger community and indeed put great value on the work, dedication and support our parent community. Together we are dedicated to promoting positive growth in all our leaders, young and old alike and recognize the great potential the great potential of our students as lifelong learners as they journey through instruction built on the foundation of the Catholic direction of our Catholic Board and Catholic Parishes.
