CUPE Job Action – Work to Rule (Updated: October 2, 2015)
The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 1479 represents educational support workers such as custodians, maintenance staff, office administrators, early childhood educators, educational assistants, youth workers, learning resource assistants and instructors for the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board.
On September 29, 2015 CUPE members escalated a work to rule job action that began on September 10, 2015. This is a Province-wide job action affecting almost every school board in Ontario.
Parents/guardians should note that student safety and well-being has remained, at all times, the Board’s top priority. During this current phase of job action by CUPE, there has been some impact to the levels of service at our schools. At this time, our schools remain open to all students, however, certain schedules and routines may have been modified on a school by school basis. Employees who are members of CUPE are participating in a partial withdrawal of their services which are having an impact on supervision, custodial and administrative tasks. The security, health and safety of our students is our primary concern and administration continues to work to ensure that the safety and supervision of our students is not compromised during this phase of CUPE work to rule.
The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board will continue to monitor this job action closely, and will provide parents and guardians with updates and information via the board website (www.alcdsb.on.ca), Twitter (@ALCDSB) and through communications from the school as necessary.
