 Principal's Message

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome each and everyone of you back to school. For those families who are new to the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School community, welcome. You will quickly realize that you and your children are in a special place. Our school community is made up of some of the finest teachers, kindest children and warmest families you will ever meet. Entering my third year as the school's principal I look forward to the many opportunities to work and learn with and from each member of this community. As a staff we have adopted the theme, Responsibility, Creativity and the Joy of Learning. The staff and students at Our Lady of Mount Carmel will give attention to curriculum, social and faith development through this theme. Collectively we will explore the importance of engaging in curriculum from the perspective that our knowledge, understanding and skills should not only afford us opportunity, but should encourage us to think about how these tenets of learning can and should help us to be better citizens of the twenty-first century. Given the advancements we have made at OLMC with technology and in areas of Mathematics and Language, we will collectively journey throughout the year down pathways that serve to accomplish the following. • Curriculum: The development of creative and diverse curriculum that attends to the needs of every child. • Community: Encourages the development of a kind and caring community at OLMC. • Child: Celebrates the growth and development of every child at OLMC. I look forward to the new year and all the potential it brings. Thank you for your continued support as we journey down a pathway of academic excellence, social kindness and spiritual growth. Michael

 About Our School

A short drive west of Kingston, along the Bath Road and Lake Ontario, leads to the community of Amherstview and the home of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School.

The school is nestled on a quiet street with a large school yard adjacent to a park and directly opposite Blessed Sacrament Church.  It is steps from the local community centre, and soccer and ball fields and is within walking distance of the local library, swimming pool and skating arena.  The location of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School has blessed it with strong links to the parish and the community.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel opened in 1957 with only two teachers and 55 students. Currently, OLMC has a staff of 41serving over 444 Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 students.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel is a dual track school and home to one of the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board’s French Immersion programmes.  That programme began as single Grade 1 class in the early 1990’s and has grown steadily over the years.  The school now offers English language and French Immersion classes in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8.

The OLMC Catholic School Council and parent community are active in volunteering and instrumental in supporting various activities and initiatives to support student learning.

The Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School community lives daily its mission as a “school community of love, learning and respect”.
