Our Lady of Fatima! Principal Patrick Mulvihill and the staff and students of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School in Belleville celebrated the school’s 50th anniversary on Wednesday, May 13th, 2009, the Feast Day of Our Lady of Fatima. The school welcomied present and past students, staff, school families and friends to a Mass at 6:00 p.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Parish and a reception followed at the school.
The school was constructed in 1959 and has undergone several structural additions including a library, new classrooms and a gymnasium, and most recently a computer lab. The environment of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School is student-friendly – the yard provides ample space and equipment for student activities and play. An active parent community provides support and direction. The school works closely with St. Michael the Archangel Parish to meet the spiritual needs of the students and all others in the community. The staff of the school, along with assistance of parents, parish team and community partners, provides a variety of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities which foster academic, moral, spiritual and social responsibility. This year OLF has helped its community, within the school, locally and globally. The school features a busy breakfast club and snack program for the students. The school also supports: the Christmas Sharing Program, Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic Education Foundation “Toonie Tuesday”, United Way, CURE Foundation for Breast Cancer Research, Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, Terry Fox Run (more than $75,000 raised in the past 13 years), Project Love, ShareLent and most recently Canadian Food for Hungry and Buy-a-Net. Our Lady of Fatima proudly lives its mission to develop a school community of love, learning and respect by living Christian values and nurturing student growth.
