 Curriculum Overview

The Algonquin and Lakeshore District School board offers a full range of academic programs from Grades 9 through 12. This curriculum leads to an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).

Class

The subjects available include French, English, geography, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, the arts and technology studies. We believe that all students studying with us should have a balance of mind, body and spirit. This is why religion courses are offered within our curriculum.

English as a Second Language (ESL) courses are offered as well. They are included in the regular school program.

To help students become prepared to learn at a Canadian school, an orientation is offered. Students will become familiar with the school environment and the community that they will be living in.

Students will meet with a guidance coouncillor to assist with course selections.

The orientation program also includes introductions to the culture of Canada, the province of Ontario and the cities of Belleville, Kingston and Trenton.

All secondary schools are modern learning facilities equipped with computer technology labs available for student use. Computer labs are networked and have access to the Internet.

 Support for International Students

Classroom
Our program provides a variety of services to our international students, in order to make their time in Canada enjoyable as possible. Homestays can be arranged through our program that will provide students extra opportunities to practice English and engage in Canadian cultural exchanges, all within a safe, caring and supportive atmosphere.

The Homestay Supervisors maintain contact with all the students throughout their stay in Canada. They help students with any of the problems or difficulites students may be experiencing.

The orientation program provides students with a tour of the school. Students receive an initial academic assessment that is used to develop a program that best suits their language needs.

The services of teacher-counsellor are assigned to each international student. Counsellors answer questions concerning program requirements, post secondary options, and provides support with personal matters.

Students have transportation arranged for them from the school to their home. If necessary our program will arrange an airport pick-up for international students.

To maintain parental involvement during the time students are away from home, our program provides regular reports from a the school on the student's progress.

Health insurance for twelve months is available at a cost of $500.00.
