The number of children living in poverty in our area continues to grow. We know that poor children face the greatest risk of health problems and difficulties in school. To respond to this growing need, the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic Education Foundation is now focusing its fundraising efforts toward the alleviation of poverty in our schools. Through the creation of an Emergency Response Fund schools will have access to funds to support children and families in crisis. The Board of Directors has been re-established and represents all employee groups of the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board, as well as our important Catholic partners. Our school system is committed to supporting children and their families living in economically disadvantaged circumstances. Our caring and empathetic culture is based on the teachings of the Catholic church and is manifested in the principles of equity, inclusiveness and respect. Through our collective efforts, we can help those in need. Assistance can include the provision of eyeglasses, Epipens, medical supplies, food and clothing and many other financial needs arising from family crises.
